My name is Ms. Clancy. I am going to be your teacher for the 2010/2011 school year so I would like to tell you a little bit about myself so we can get to know each other better. I have been a teacher for 9 years now. This will be my ninth year at Hillcrest. My first teaching job was at Hillcrest. I started in Januaray 2002 in Kindergarten in Room 107. I absolutely loved it and learned so much. I transferred to Grade three in September 2002 and have been there until now. I am absolutely ecstatic about teaching in the Junior grades. I come from a family of five. I am the middle of three sisters. I was born in Toronto, but moved to Edmonton, Alberta when I was still an infant and it took many years before we returned here. I moved many times growing up (I was in three different schools for Grade three - imagine???). I lived in England for a few years and went back and forth between Alberta and Ontario. It was there that I learned to ski. When I was going into Grade seven we moved to Mississauga. My family stayed there for five years and then decided to move back to Toronto again. Soon after I went to Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. I studied Modern European History. I also had an excellent opportunity to study abroad in England at a castle for a term. What an experience! After I graduated from University I had a few different jobs unrelated to education. I knew that I didn't want to sit at a desk all day, and it was then that I realized I needed to do something with my life that would make me happy - and here I am!! I ended up going to the University of Edinburgh in Scotland for my teaching degree. Once again, I was so lucky to have yet another unbelievable experience. It was one of the most beautiful cities I had ever been to. I practiced teaching in many schools while I was there and knew that teaching was the perfect profession for me. Once I graduated from Teacher's College I headed back to Toronto, Ontario (my first love!!). I was an occasional teacher for almost a year and someone told me about an opening at Hillcrest, and eight years later I am teaching Grade 4/5! Obviously, you may have already guessed that traveling has been a big part of my life. I continue to enjoy it and hope that I can visit many other countries all over the world during my lifetime. My other passions include spending time with my husband and two children, reading, skiing/snowboarding, and eating out. Although I am very lucky that my husband is a chef, so I get to eat well every night! I am now married and have two absolutey amazing children, Katie who will be four in December, and Finley (Finn) who will be two at the end of September. Katie actually starts kindergarten with Simon (in my first room, 107) this year as well. Very exciting for her (and me too :). My kids at the zoo I am super excited to be teaching you this year. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and your life history. I hope you are as motivated as I am to make sure that this year is an excellent one. I am really looking forward to having some help on this website. We can make it truly amazing with ideas from everyone in the classroom. Sincerely, Ms. Clancy |
